Great Fan - Not Quiet
By Frederick J. Ashby
This fan moves plenty of air. I don't know why you would want a bigger one. We have a 2400 sq ft house and it makes a nice breeze through the house. It isn't quiet, so I am glad I mounted it in the back room. I don't think any fan with this amount of power is going to be quiet though. Overall I am very satisfied with it.The install is quite involved requiring a box frame to be built in the attic and of course wiring to the 2 speed switch. I suggest using 2x8 lumber for the frame which will raise the fan up a few inches and reduce the noise. I mounted it on foam pipe insulation and used metal straps to hold it down to further isolate the vibrations.

Really moves the air but a bit noisy.
By Terry M.
After reading some of the other reviews about the noise generated by this unit we took pains to mount this on thick foam weatherstrip. It was also positioned on top of the framing rather than between the ceiling joists so as to gain a few more inches of distance. As a result, there is no appreciable vibration transmitted to the house structure. The noise of the air movement is still appreciable, especially on HIGH.This fan really moves the hot air out of the room quickly!

Easy installation even with modifications
By S. Smith
This fan went in easily even with some modifications that I had to make. Instructions should tell you that you should never cut the bottom chord of a roof truss. All they talk about are roof rafters and joists and they give you the option of installing "rafter joist in" or "rafter joist out" but the majority of homes built in the last 20 - 30 years have used engineered trusses. Cutting the bottom chord of a truss - the board that the ceiling drywall attaches to - can have some pretty serious consequences and shouldn't be done and since both trusses and rafters sit at 24" on center there isn't room for this or most other fans to sit between. The solution is to cut out the drywall rough opening to the size they recommend leaving the truss or rafter intact and build a simple little frame or box that hangs down from the ceiling 4" or so which is enough room for the shutter to open completely. Mount the shutter to the box and there is no need to cut a truss or rafter. Doesn't even matter where your rafters or trusses land in relation to where you want to put the fan.The fan itself is quiet and draws a lot of air. Works great. Don't notice much difference between high and low settings so I just let it run on the low setting most of the time. Great way to cool a house without paying for AC or the electric bill that goes along with AC. Motor is 3.8 AMP and you'll barely notice any additional bump in your electrical consumption.
