As a landlord I own about 15 of this model and similar Panasonic Whisper Lite Fans. The fans themselves are reliable and quiet. The lighting sucks. At first I was very pleased with the unit, it is well constructed and very quiet. I installed them everywhere. Then I started noticing the light bulb failures. A few ballast failures too. On average my bulbs last for 10% of their rated 10,000 hour life. Not only that they have to be special ordered online, I have never found them locally. Not surprisingly I buy them by the case. Even worse is Panasonics response. They will say repeatedly that the bulbs are assumed to be on 24 hours a day and that therefore the rated life expectancy is 1.5 years. If you explain that your bulbs are on only 2 hours a day and still lasted 1.5 years, they will repeat their assumption. If you point out that their fans are heavily marketed as energy efficient and only a moron would leave the light on 24 hours a days - they repeat their assumption.The reviews for their bulbs at this site are horrible, so I am not alone. Yet Panasonic has been manufacturing these fans, model after model, year after year, with a light assembly where the bulbs only last 10% of their rated life, and continuing to stick with a bulb style that stores don't stock, even though there are very similar styles that are universally stocked. Is this who you want to buy a fan from???For those complaining about poor fan performance, make sure that you have the right sized fan for your room, and more inportantly that your ductwork is clear, straight, and short. If it is long, has elbows, is flexible / corrugated you need more power to overcome that. If it is clogged with lit or possibly water that has collected in a low spot then you need to fix that. Never replce your fan without inspecting to duct.

I expected a Panasonic product to be first rate. This product was defective with a bad electronic ballast upon receipt. Since I did not know it was bad I installed the fan. ( NOT a good retrofit Product use only on new construction) After hours of installation the fan and night lite worked properly but the light ( a 4 pin compact fluorescent)would only flash on and off. After several calls to Panasonic for technical support they offered two ideas, buy a new lamp and call an electrician and have him check the electronic ballast. They would not stand behind their product. This fan replace a working light/fan combination that was just too noisy. The house wiring was fine and it was connected per instructions. Everything expect the fluorescent lamp worked. I relpaced the bulb and no change. That means the electronic ballast was bad. Panasonic gave me the telephone no of a place to BUY an new one. Great support for a brand new item.

A contractor friend who specializes in bathroom remodels strongly recommended Panasonic ceiling fans to me. He put one of the larger models in a bathroom he did for me and I was very satisfied. When it came time to replace a fan in another bathroom, I chose the FV-08VQL5. This is a small space (50 square Feet), and this fan works fine. It removes moisture from hot showers without problems or delay. Its also quiet. Furthermore, I like the sturdy, adjustable mounting brackets that allow easy positioning, regardless of joist spacing. Also, the way the grill attaches on extended springs allows the fan to be recessed above drywall, making a retro fit easy. The light is fine. Its florescent, which another reviewer didn't like, but its economical to run and throws plenty of light. But I understand why some people don't like florescent. And finally, when you hold the fan and inspect it, its well made- it has some heft.I plan on using another one in the third bathroom, and that's why I was on this site. It probably deserves a 5 star, but I don't believe in star inflation.
