This opener blows me awayI got it installed over the weekendIts a very different design - the motor is in the thing attached to the door, not in the head at the back end of the railThe rail carries 24 volts, like a street car wouldIt ran so quiet, the garage door and the garage door spring were the noisy elementsIt inspired me to lubricate them. Now I hear virtually nothing when the garage door opensOnly knock I have is the screws used to set the limit positions for travel are cheap and strip fastI also wish there was a standard for hole punched steel bracingDidnt have all the mounting hardware to mount to the ceiling - but I had old bolts to reuse from the originalWe shall see how it does on durability, but its off to a good start

This is the third one that we have installed and they were the best openers there is. At $288 it may seem expensive but once installed with no noise or chain slap. Easy to instal by DIY persons.

This opener (with the blue buttons) is a newer version of the model 1041 (red buttons); to my knowledge the only differences are HomeLink and rolling code, both of which are a must in my opinion. Regarding the mechanics and basic features, I second the great reviews for model 1041. With just a tall ladder this opener wasn't hard to install at all (by myself, without a helper).It is incredibly (extremely, unbelievably, wonderfully, fantastically) quiet. QUIET. Really. The neighbor's garage from across the alley is now louder than mine. And that's when I'm standing directly underneath my new opener. However, as mentioned in the reviews for model 1041, this opener could use a little more zip, and that's why I deducted a star. The opener also doesn't have Internet connectivity or a battery backup, if that's important to you, you should look at different models.Here are a few things that I found out while installing this:- It is only compatible with A15 bulbs or smaller. The instructions only mention an inch size, so if you don't do the math real quick and put in a standard A19 bulb (such as the special Philips A19 garage door opener bulbs), you WILL melt the plastic housing (light bulbs are in eights of an inch, so 19/8 = 2.375 and that's more than 2).- Go to homelink.com for your programming instructions. I wasted an hour following BMW's directions and didn't get anywhere. The web site said "push all three buttons" and it worked immediately (this seems to be the only opener that requires all three buttons to program)There's a great warranty and in addition to all kinds of replacement parts Sommer also sells a side mount kit, which is intriguing in its own right.My main goal was low noise and this opener delivers. However, I do wish someone figured out a way to increase the speed of this system by 40% or so by hacking it. But then again, patience is a virtue.
